| Ewan Chrystal |
[Jan. 7th, 2009|10:33 pm] |
As some of you may already know Ewan Chrystal, a long standing active participant in SF and Anime fandom, passed away at the weekend.
I've been fortunate enough to work with Ewan a number of times over the last 10 years, and there are few other people I know who could match his dedication, generosity, kindness or humour.
Farewell, Ewan - your memory is one that will not be forgotten.

Oh god. I had no idea. Hadn't been in contact with him since probably Ayacon '05.
dammit.
I had no idea either ... a real shame, he was a lovely man and a delight at any convention.
Farewell Ewan.
Just got three emails on this. I'm gutted, and herself ( were_gopher) isn't exactly happy either.
I hadn't heard, that's terrible news. He was such a lovely guy, always helpful, always friendly.

We hadn't heard either. That's such a shame, he was a lovely chap.
That's terribly sad. His is a convention face I shall certainly miss.
we hadn't heard either ... what a great shame We will definately miss him at eastercon
Cass Marshall here, I worked with Ewan at Denvention. This is so sad. Ewan was one of the very few bright lights of Denvention. He was a joy to work with and great fun. A man of quiet integrity, and very competent. This is a great loss. I am embarrassed to ask but is there any one I could (or should) express my condolences to?

Simon Bland, co-chair of Minamicon here. After talking to Ewans next of kin I thought I should just pass on the following:
Ewan died from sudden heart failure; it would have been swift and we should take solace in the fact he would have passed with no suffering.
Ewans funeral will be on the 21st, January. If any of you would like to attend please email sn.bland@imperial.ac.uk and I will pass on full details.
I am collating messages on consolation for his family from the minami forum, livejouranal and any emails we receive. If you wish to add/say anything please feel free to use my email above. His family knew of what he did in his 'other life', but parhaps did not know how deeply he touched many of our lives.
We will be holding a memorial at Minami for our gentle giant. This will be to celebrate his life, and what he did for everyone in fandom. I'll say more about this as i know.
Many thanks to all in this difficult time
